Happy New Year everyone! Here’s to my first post in 2020 ! It is so crazy to me that I’ve had this blog for about a year and a half now. My New Years resolutions for my blog content is to post more recipes and home décor.
Sabir, Ghost and I have recently moved to the DC/Virginia area and so far, we love it! No intentions of moving back to Baltimore (for now)!
Since we were moving to a new state and starting new jobs, it only made sense to get new furniture and start fresh!
We opted for a one bedroom with den apartment (approx. 880 sqft). The great part about our layout is that the den is completely open to the living room so we repurposed it as a dining room.
The style I was going for when decorating our new home was modern farmhouse.

Living Room
Our TV stand (which we are obsessed with) has more of the farmhouse vibe to it. We got it from Wayfair, which means you have to build it BUT it’s completely worth it! I took these pictures before we mounted the TV so now we have a ton more space to put whatever we want on top. My favorite part about this TV stand is that the two doors move freely so you can decide if you want them to cover the outer shelving or adjust to cover them partially.
Our coffee table is from Amazon and sadly they no longer sell it. I saw a table JUST like this one at ZGallerie, but obvs it was way more expensive. I believe we got this table for under $100 and they have many similar ones on Wayfair (I linked a similar table at the end of this post). The only pain is that since the entire table is glass, it has to be wiped down every other day or Ghost’s hair will accumulate.
I wanted to keep the coffee table clean and simple. I found this silver centerpiece bowl at Crate and Barrel and had to get it! The best part about using a bowl as your centerpiece is that you can swap out the potpourri each season. I usually always get mine from HomeGoods or HomeSense.
Our couch is also from Wayfair and we LOVE how modern it looks. It’s comfortable and sits a little lower to the ground than our previous couch. You can either lay the headrest flat or at an angle. Not going to lie, sometimes I put it flat so that I can rest my drink on there hah.
Dining Room
Ok, so our dining table – We were EXTREMELY lucky with this find! For some background, my dining table inspo was this one from Pottery Barn. It was extremely expensive and Sabir and I both agreed that we aren’t investing a ton of money into furniture until we buy a house. Pier1 has a table (the Bradding) that looks exactly the same as the Pottery Barn table but for a fraction of the price! So we went to Pier1 and not only did they have the table we wanted (on sale!), they also had another table (the Eastwood) that was on clearance for $270, plus an additional 30% off! AND it was in the shadow grey color we were looking for. This table is amazing. It’s super sturdy and fits 6 people.
Our dining chairs are from Amazon. They look way more expensive than they actually are. The legs are way lighter than the actual table so once the weather gets nice, we are going to stain them to match the table.
For the decor, HomeGoods is my best friend. I legit get everything from there. I love abstract art because it’s a blend of multiple colors and everyone interprets it in their own way. The painting I hung in the dining room is from HomeGoods (duh).
Last (but certainly not least), or lamps! Edison lamps are so trendy and the dark metal matches our TV stand and the bottom of our dining table. These were a little pricey (~80/lamp) but it was so worth it.
Decorating your apartment is so important because it is literally what makes a house feel like a home.
