I have wanted to try fillers for years and I am not sure why I waited so long to do so! Well actually I do, haha. 1) I am terrified of needles, and 2) it is expensive. With those two points aside, I am obsessed and will continue to keep up the maintenance.
1 HOUR AFTER INJECTIONS!
To be honest, I did not receive much pre or post-op instructions *eye-roll* but I guess that’s why we have the internet.
I went to Jocelyn at Gerrish MedEsthetics in Vienna, VA. She was extremely knowledgeable, kind, and made me feel at ease. Highly recommend checking her out if you are in the DMV area.
She recommended I go with Juvederm Voluma XC for my cheeks (Voluma is a thick hard filler that mimics bone) and Restylane for my lips (Restylane is softer for lips or smile lines)! I only did one syringe of each since this was my first session, however, Jocelyn said I could come back in 6 weeks for a second one (she said I would definitely see the results I was looking for after the second one).
VeryWellHealth.com states that “Juvéderm Voluma XC is a non-surgical, injectable filler—technically called a volumizer—composed of a modified form of hyaluronic acid (HA); hyaluronic acid occurs in nearly every cell of the human body, with 50% of it in the skin. The volumizer is generally used to lift and contour areas of the face like the cheeks and chin.”
According to Restylane’s website, “Restylane is a clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid that is specifically formulated to act like your body’s own naturally produced hyaluronic acid, helping to visibly correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, including the lines that run from your nose toward the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds) and the lines that run from the corners of your mouth toward the chin (marionette lines).”
With that being said, both of these fillers are safe when administered properly.
The question I am asked most often is ‘how much was it?’ I paid $800 for one syringe of Voluma and $675 for one syringe of Restylane, for a grand total of $1,275 (ouch!!) Jocelyn suggested that I sign up for Alle Rewards and Aspire Rewards. Both companies offer incentives and promos on fillers pretty regularly!
*Side note: please do not go to someone because they are “cheap.” If they are charging you $200 and do not have credentials, I would not trust it. Fillers are not that cheap and you want to make sure that you are getting the right FDA approved fillers.*
So originally, my appointment was scheduled a month out, BUT I asked if I could be put on their cancellation list (definitely ask about this because a ton of MedSpa’s are booked months in advance). I received a call two weeks later with news that they had a cancellation and that they could see me that day (woo!).
I checked in and eagerly waited to get called back. Once called back, Jocelyn asked what I wanted and what kind of results I was looking for. Once we agreed on my treatment, she lathered on the numbing cream (lips only). My God does that stuff work. I could not feel a thing! The most painful part (which she warned me about) was the cupids bow. After that, it felt *uncomfortable* but not painful.
bruising was pretty bad for the first few days, but that is normal for the first time.
The cheek filler was a breeze. Seriously. The only part that made me feel weird was the “crunching” noise it makes when the needle is inserted. She told me the reason for this was because it is going under your muscle.
It is true what they say, you are obsessed with your lips when they swell and as soon as they settle down, there’s an immediate want for another filler session haha. I can’t say enough good things about it! My face was instantly lifted from the cheek filler and I feel like it made my jawline look somewhat more defined.
by day 8, the bruising reduced significantly and was basically gone.
My lips were EXTREMELY dry and kept peeling for about two weeks. I used this lip mask every day, all day and it eventually got better.
The healing process for my cheeks was much easier. I didn’t wear foundation for about a week so that the incisions could heal. I also made sure to sleep on my back. I was advised not to put much pressure on the areas where I was injected for about two weeks so that the filler has time to fully integrate into my tissue and not risk the chance of movement.
Aside from these small nuisances, it was honestly a breeze!
It’s been about 10 months since I got my first round of filler and I highly suggest it. My lips have definitely reduced, but I feel like they are still a little bigger than before having it done!
Have you tried fillers before? If so, what are your thoughts?
THANK YOU! I NEEDED THIS!
